Turtle Shade by DarkMechanic Turtle Shade by DarkMechanic
New work! usually I wait a bit before posting anything to see if I can spot any glaring mistakes, but I'm quite excited about this because I used shade, so to hell with it.

New work is basically based on more solid, thought out work, still in the sci-fi/fantasy direction, but a bit more considered, so I can maybe get work in the same vien. so I can, you know, eat and stuff.

As always, thoughts welcome.

Love it! Nice work on the shading really enhances the feel of bein in a forest, with the light streamin down through the leafs. I feel that the 'flat' smoke works really well. Could be because i really enjoy Mignola style coloring ;D

But if the smoke wasnt in the pic i have to agree with marvelleftw that the trees could have been in a cooler color. Keep it up, looking forward to seein more :)

I like your new direction there seem to be less blacks about, which was also your distinguishing feature.

I love it man, your latest drawings are improving constantly! I think the trees in the bg need a cool color so you can pop the front more. Also the tree beside the turtle could use some bluefication :P
Two other things to consider - shading the smoke and varying line color.

Thanks man. I actually didn't know if the shadows would work, I just tried it at the end, but I couldn't have the shadows and a faded background to represent distance, I think they cancelled each other out.

Also, as I think I've said before, it's hard to balance realism with the style I use, so I'm left in a conundrum, do I try and make it as realistic as possible? Or do I try to enhance my style more, give it more depth? aaaaaaaaaaa

This is fantastic. I love the weight behind it, you can see that the Turtle is properly heavy.

Fantastic work man! This one really popped as a thumbnail in my messages, ie, the composition is strong. The mottled light adds interest and complexity and describes form. The Turtle's shell looks properly wide, rounded and heavy. Plenty of overlap too. You've stepped it up.

The shading is immaculate! And the flat smoke only enhances the effect.

Thanks! and yeah, the smoke was from when it was just going to be flat colours, minus the shade, as I wasn't sure if the shade effect would work. but then do i shade the smoke? aaaaaaaaaaaa
