Although I'm sure the amount of people thinking 'I wonder what Dark Mechanic is up to' is virtually nil, I thought I'd say whats going on now, as I'm not too active on my websites at the moment.
I do a lot of work that I'm either not allowed to show right now, or work that isn't really worth showing (storyboards and the like), which doesn't leave a lot of time for any personal, or fun work. My process for making art is a bit more convoluted than most digital artists I imagine, so even if I just want to do a fun Space Marine for instance, that would still probably take a day.
What I can say is that I'm currently working for Mutant Year Zero, a post-apocalyptic roleplaying game, which will be a lot of work to show in the pipeline. I'll also be working on a new tabletop game, called Far Shores, so would be in charge of pretty much everything art related there. I'm looking forward to trying to take that in a new direction, away from the standard digital painted affair you see with these games nowadays. There may be also some more Agents work in the pipeline, not sure what form that would take yet.
I'm also working on 2 of my own comic scripts, for that I'm trying to push away from the super-hero thing and make something intelligent, interesting and overall, fresh. Although thats coming on slow, what I have I like, so look forward to showing that at some point. Ones a Sci-fi, ones a Fantasy.
I have lots of things I want to do, like redoing the Primarch series (as a kind of see how much I progressed kind of thing), a Rogue Trader gallery, and also I planned a load of book covers as homage for the late Iain M. Banks, whose science fiction is a big influence on me. And I guess I should really do some new illustrations based on nothing other than my own imagination, because it's been 3 years since the last one.
Oh, and I'm trying to get the ball rolling on redoing my website, so it's actually up to date and not 5 years old.
So I'm busy, which is good, but it leaves zero time for anything I would like to do for myself, which is sad face. I would also like to get better as an artist at some point. Not sure I'll ever have time for that, maybe by 2030?.
So there you go, hope to be showing you new work at some point in the future, don't write me off till then!

Genestealer Cult Trailer
Hi guys, happy new year!
I don't upload here much anymore, mainly because of NDA's, but I'm still about.
Some of you may of noticed that I worked with Games Workshop to produce the Genestealer Cult Trailer!
GW took a risk using me I think, as I'm not your typical 'grim-dark' artist, but if you liked it, let them know and hopefully me and other artists will get more opportunities like this in the future! It's nice to go full circle, from fan-artist to actual artist, and I feel I'm one step closer to making my space marines with small heads canon.
I'll try and upload some frames at some point too, as a lot of work went into the art, an it's
HELL-BENT
Hey guys!
HELL-BENT is a personal project of mine, which I'm finally getting round to starting. I've spent the last few weeks (and a bit of time on and off a few months prior to this) writing and thinking about an expanded world, how things work and connect etc. It's all jumbled rubbish at the moment, but it's a start!
As I'm sure you remember, I spend a lot of time moaning about not being able to show current work, being stifled creatively, or just not having time to work on my own stuff, so this is my answer to all that. It means I'm in creative control, and I can share all my prep work (including pencils!), and I can also start getting t
10 Years an artist!
It's been 10 years since I graduated from my BA Illustration course at university, and moved up to London to become an artist!
Unfortunately for me, a qualification in illustration didn't really mean that much, (2D artists, especially for the games industry, are less desirable than ones who are more proficient in 3D software) so I worked for 7 years in minimum wage jobs while trying to find an application for my art.
I began storyboarding while working part time, but then the recession hit and a lot of the agencies I was working with went under, and spending money on art was suddenly unexceptable (especially for one as inexperienced as me). I

That's a thought that does cross my mind occasionally...
It's good to hear you're busy, and I understand the frustration of not being able to show much of what you work on. A redux of the primarch series would be cool to see, but definitely more excited to see what your personal comics look like.
